Laptop Video Problem, dots and hyphens throughout screen and distorted colors?

Okay, to replace a video card in a laptop. You need to replace the motherboard. Most of the laptops are cheaper to replace the laptop as a whole then it is to have a new motherboard installed. Honestly, that is avenue that I would be looking at.
