Why did Palestinians elect Hamas?

Fatah was corrupt and inept. Hamas won the hearts and minds of the people by emphasizing beneficial programs and deemphasizing its destructive agenda. When it won the popular election, it was the legitimate government. Because the election didn't turn out the way we wanted it to, we refused to recognize that government. After Israel pulled out of Gaza unilaterally, with Iranian weapons, superior plans, and better morale, Hamas ousted Fatah from Gaza. Emboldened by its successes, it launched rockets with ever increasing range into Israel. By locating its launchers and weapons caches in schools, mosques, and hospitals, it forced Israel to cause civilian casulaties with each reprisal. Now Hamas has reaped the whirlwind for its supporters.
