Bringing puppies across state lines, ethical or not?
I recently went on a trip to tennesse to visit my grandma. While I was there, we met her neighbor. Turns out, she had a whole litter of puppies. She said she was going to take them to the pound as soon as they were weened. I was shocked! I asked her if she tried to find homes for them. She said she ran an add in the paper but no one responded. So, I did some research. Turns out there are TONS of puppies for free EVERY DAY in TN and KY. The shelters are maxed, and they have some of the highest kill rates in the country. So, heres my question. Would it be ethical for me to go down there every couple months and bring some up to ohio to try and find homes for them? I'm not made of money, but I know how to draw up an adoption contract, and I can give vaccines myself (minus rabies) and I really think I could find them homes. I'm not talking puppy mills here. I wouldn't pay for any dog, and most, like my grandmas neighbor, just don't have any other options besides the pound. A lot of "rescues" in my area of ohio sell their "puppies" for hundreds of dollars. (which personally I think is bull) I don't even think that a rehoming fee is necisary as long as the adoptee can abide by the contract. (I think one of the best ways is a home visit and a vet referance). I'm not trying to make money, I just feel so bad for all these puppies! BUT, is it really ethical to bring them to another state? Any thoughts would be GREATLY appretiated! Thanks!
