Can I make kelp powder by drying seaweed from the beach?

Hi so I was wanting to make a seaweed mask and the mask recipe calls for kelp powder. I live right by the beach, so I was wondering if I could skip the trip to the health food store and just collect some seaweed from the beach, dry the seaweed out, and grind it into a powder. Would that be like the powder from the health store?
