'The modern poor are not pitied but written off as trash.' Is this true? Is this ethical?

It depends on how you define poor, if your talking money, everyone starts out equal, you can get an education and earn a fair wage, or drop out, blame everyone else because you didn't want to apply yourself. There is little reason to feel sorry for the poor, the offers of a free or sponsor provided training is out there. America is tired of supporting those who feel because they are who they are, deserve to be given more handouts, because others who made it need to share it. The old days of social programs has changed even welfare in my state, is for 2 years, they will find them a job, provide clothes, child care, free bus pes, A women I worked with about 10 years ago, had 7 children pregnant with an 8th, was angry because the welfare told her that she was to work, and if she didn't, not to look to them for support. She was at one time collecting almost 2000.00 a month in istance and food stamps were another 600.00. I can't blame her, living high on the hog was better than having to work for 8 bucks an hour. I told her she should have thought about that when she went on public istance after her 1st child was born. She did agree that if she had known that one day she would not collect welfare, she would have never had her 8th child, who she stated she didn't want anyway.
