Question about Mission Space, the ride on Epcot?

Yesterday I rode Mission Space and I really felt I was being launched into space. It was staggering. My question is, how does it work? How do they simulate the speed, acceleration and gravitation forces? Please answer as clearly as possible, as I know nothing about physics.
